The Most Important Pages for a Service Business

Which pages earn inquiries for contractors, consultants and local service providers — and how deep to go on each.

For most service businesses, a small number of pages does nearly all the work. Knowing which ones lets you invest your effort where it changes outcomes.

One page per service you want to sell

A single combined services page rarely performs well. People search for one specific thing — water heater replacement, estate planning, bathroom remodel — and want a page about that thing. Each service page should state who it is for, what is included, what happens first, and how to start.

A home page that routes, not repeats

The home page's job is to state the offer and send people to the right place quickly. It does not need to contain everything. When a home page repeats every service in full, visitors stop scrolling before they reach the part relevant to them.

A service-area page when location matters

If you travel to customers, say where you work. This helps people self-qualify and gives search engines a clear local signal. Keep it honest: list areas you actually serve, not a county list you copied from a competitor.

An about page that shows a person

For small businesses, the about page is often the second most visited page on the site. People are checking whether you are real. A photograph, a short history, and a plain statement of standards outperforms a paragraph of company language.

A contact page built for a phone

  • Short form with only the fields you genuinely need.
  • A tappable phone number and honest response expectations.
  • A clear success message so nobody wonders whether it sent.

Then, and only then, supporting content

Once those pages are strong, answering real customer questions in writing is the highest-value next step. Each answer becomes a page that can be found in search and reused in your replies.
